JP Business: Former Bloomberg Commissioner of Small Businesses, Robert Walsh, Joins CPEX

Robert-WalshCPEX Real Estate announced that Robert W. Walsh, the former Commissioner of the New York City Department of Small Business Services, will join CPEX as a Senior Managing Director of CPEX’s Advisory Services Division.

In this role Walsh will provide Advisory services for CPEX clients and will also contribute to business development and the strategic growth of CPEX.

“Rob’s addition to our firm enhances our ability to provide the best possible advice and service to our client base,” said Timothy D. King, Managing Partner at CPEX.

Managing Partner Brian T. Leary added, “There are few people more qualified than Rob to assist property and business owners navigate government programs and craft strategies to accelerate the growth of their businesses.”

During the Bloomberg Administration, Walsh was the Commissioner of Small Business Services and effectively improved the agency’s ability to better respond and serve the needs of New York’s 2,000 small businesses.

He developed new Business Solution Centers and Workforce Centers throughout the five boroughs that placed more than 200,000 New Yorkers in jobs and secured more than $200 million in capital for small businesses. He also created 24 new Business Improvement Districts and oversaw the network of 70 BIDs.

As President of Charlotte Center City Partners in North Carolina, he initiated a plan for the City that led to more housing, retail development, an NBA arena, a light rail line, and the attraction of Johnson & Wales University.

From 1989-97, he served as Executive Director of the Union Square Partnership where he worked with government, business and community leaders on a comprehensive strategy that led to significant reinvestment along the 14th Street and Union Square corridors.

Walsh also served in the Koch Administration from 1981-89, in various capacities including Assistant Director for Citywide Services in the Mayor’s Office of Operations and Executive Director of the NYC Urban Fellows Program.

Walsh concurrently teaches as a distinguished lecturer and Faculty Director of the Executive Master of Public Administration Program at CUNY’s Baruch School of Public Affairs. He also produces a weekly segment on CBS’s New York 1010 WINS known as, “The Bottom Line for Small Business.”
